Girls, Is she really keeping the conversation going? I wonder why?

I added this girl I knew from college on LinkedIn. LinkedIn recommended. Usually when I add people on LinkedIn they accept or reject or ignore. Very seldom do people really message in response to a connection request on LinkedIn.

This girl started messaging. Cute girl.. It was the typical what are you upto these days kind of messages. Then I told her " I got this new job in this new place". I assumed she would do the usual " Great. All the best". But she asked me " Are you excited?". I responded with a " Yes I am excited. I used to work for your company a few years ago" n she is like " How was it working for the company?"

All this on LinkedIn messages. And she takes a couple of days to respond. I take a day or two to respond too.. But she asks a question about me everytime she messages.
As I said she is a cute girl. I am totally interested to keep the conversation going. But this is on LinkedIn. Not sure if she wants to keep the conversation going.. Not sure how to play this...

she's networking. Unless she starts blatantly flirting with you then do not think of it as her trying to butter you up to ask you out to initiate an intimate relationship.

Do you happen to work at a reputable company? Is your current company hiring and her current position aligns with any of those opening jobs? She could be trying to create an authentic connection in order to segway to asking if you could put a good word in for her if or when she attempts to apply for a position with your company. Or maybe she admires your career progression so far and wants to ensure you will be an active connection for use as a reference sometime in the future.

Notice how all of the points shared in my second paragraph all have reasonable platanic and professional reasons behind her intentions? Please keep those in mind as a fellow woman in the working world in the Tech industry it is so damn hard trying to network with the opposite damn gender due to them always ASSUMING that our intention of reaching out is to pursue them intimately when it is the furthest thing from our minds. We just want to cultivate active and authentic professional connections to continue thriving at work.

She works in HR for a chain hotel.
I work in Tech. Maybe she wants to move to tech.. Lol
N when I said I used to work for her company what I meant was I used to work in F&B in one of the hotels back when I was in college. Lol.
If she is networking.. well she is wasting her time. Lol

in any case your point is well taken. The highest probability explanation is that she wants to network. This is LinkedIn. I'm gonna play by ear.

Thanks for sharing details on the situation. Since the roles she has does change things a bit. Have you tried to give her a finite reply e. g. end the conversation in a direct yet tactful way. To see if she still tries again to initiate?

Hmm.. The closest I came to that was when I did the " I got a new job in a new place" part. My assumption was she is gonna go " Great. All the best"n I was gonna go "Thanks. All the best to you too"

What started off as networking can really head to something more. For example I have people flirting with me in my LinkedIn inbox, some are blatant and some go ahead ask for my number and want to video call immediately only to ask me on a date no matter how professional I keep things. Or they network and want to discuss business only to ask you out after a video call. If you would like to get to know her more outside of a professional setting; ask her number, Instagram or whatever other platform you use to socialize usually people have their socials on their profile.

Can’t say for sure. If she’s down to talk outside of linkedin and talk about other things besides work then she’s probably interested.
