What alcoholic drinks don't taste like alcohol? Aka girlie drinks.

Question

Yes, it sounds a bit crazy. But I'm turning 21 soon and I keep hearing that I'll love all the girlie drinks that taste like fruit. But what are they? I avoid alcohol because of the smell just gets to me but I've agreed to a party where all of us generally non drinking females are going to try some different drinks in the safety of my apartment. But I'd like suggestions of what types of drinks we should try.

Well of course you're still going to smell the alcohol unless you get wine coolers but you still will smell a small hint of alcohol. The key to making a drink that doesn't taste strong is mixing it properly. By this I mean using ice, not too much alcohol, and adding the alcohol BEFORE you add the mixer. A lot of people make the mistake of filling their cup of with juice and then adding alcohol and saying how strong it is, well that's because the alcohol is on top of everything. You want to mix it well by either shaking it in a shaker or transferring from one cup to another about 3 times.

You might not like how alcohol smells but you have to remember that there's so many different kinds of alcohol and each of them taste differently. For a girlie drank I suggest any kind of Malibu. It comes in original coconut or other fruits like mango or banana, etc. There's a brand of vodka called Firefly that is ice tea flavored (as well as sweet tea). When mixed with tea it tastes heavenly and just like tea.

If you're going to go the wine cooler route then I suggest Mikes Harder Fruit Punch in mango flavored. I'm not a fan of wine coolers because they taste like fruity water to me but this one you don't taste any alcohol hardly but it tastes amazing. If you're going to get wine coolers then make sure you drink them cold.

If you want something strong, try Hot Damn. Believe it or no, even the 100 proof version doesn't taste like alcohol. All you taste is cinnamon. And yeah it burns all the way down, but it's a cinnamon burn. Take it easy though, anything 100 proof will hit you hard if you're shooting it.

You can make mixed drinks out of them too. One of my favorite things ever is to mix a shot of 100 proof Hot Damn with a glass of sparkling apple cider. Tastes like candy apples. For a lighter taste, just do half a shot. It's strong so you don't need a lot.

I usually find drinks that are literally named with some fruit name taste alright (i.e., Sour Apple Martini). I'm guessing those are the kind of drinks your friends/people are referring to.

Smirnoff ice, Bacardi breezers (basically any alcopops... they're called alcopops for a reason 5% tops)

Vodka can have it's taste masked with most fruit juices, Cranberry being the best (my favorite drink) The sweet, bitterness from the cranberries masks the taste of the vod, tastes like a refreshing summer drink

Cooling drinks or adding ice also gets rid of the alcoholic taste, the colder something is, the less of it evaporates (it happens on a minute scale, this is why you taste something more the warmer it is) and the less 'taste and aroma' you get... it tastes like the mixer, not the spirit

i've had this wine called "girls night out" (lol), it literally taste like juice/fruit punch, and its very easy to drink a botte on your  own, since it goes down easy and its not that strong.

Margaritas generally don't taste like alcohol.  A good bartender can usually give you suggestions for drinks along these lines.
