Why would a girl place her hand close to you?

Would that be a sign of an acquaintance that she isn't a touch feely type of person and they do this?

If it's a shy girl, why would she do this while you're not looking?

If it's a friend, how much trust would there be to do this? (as in, more than friends, friends being seen as family members or something else.
