My ex restricts her dogs water intake for air conditioning. Like cool air is important but they naturally need water I’m their system and she doesn’t seem to understand that

I agree with @jazzy54

That's pretty much abuse. Air conditioning acts as a dehumidifier which extracts humidity/moisture from the air which makes a dog thirsty. Dry cool air is not a substitute for hot moist air when it comes to a dogs body temp and water intake.

They would need water to replenish the moisture in their body and for other functions.

I've had vets tell me that water can be withheld from dogs for valid reasons such as pertaining to crate-potty-training, but not if water is actually needed by the dog.

I'm of the opinion that water should always be available for a dog unless withheld for a valid, specific, humane reason.
