Our chats dont go any further than hi or how are you?

I like this girl. she's abit shy as am i. Most of our interactions at work consist of waving, smiling and hi and how are you, etc.

But when i try to say things further than that, she doesn't really try to carry the conversation much further. She generally asks how i am back almost every time, and might reciprocate a question i asked her. I can't really tell if maybe she has poor social skills, is just shy, or uninterested? Which is it?

It could be all three of those. She doesn't sound like a very social person from what you describe. She sounds more the type that likes to be alone with her thoughts and only communicates the bare minimum to be friendly and not come off as completely cold. She also doesn't sound real interested in getting to know you more. It doesn't help that you are both shy. I am just taking a guess at this because without a lot of context I have no clue what the reason could be. Only she knows that but if you have been at this a while and that is all the further you can get then take it to mean she is just being nice but not interested.

Yeah sorry, there was plenty i didn't add. This has been going for a little while. There is genuine smiles from both of us just about everytime, she usually asks how i am first with a smile. And i believe she has shown good signs of interest before, so its abit confusing.

I've showed abit of interest in her and initiated plenty of conversation, even on facebook once. Earlier this year, all we really did was make eye contact and smile at eachother, and since about 3 or so months ago, we started small talk. Like i said, we are both shy.

That is the really tough part here is that you are both shy. Someone is going to have to ask the other one out if interested or I fear you are going to be doing this dance forever.

Most of the times, when a person is interested in someone, they do want to get to know the person better & initiate a conversation, it’s a back & forth thing.


Based on the information you have shared, I can tell you are interested in her but she’s not being very engaging, which for me translates to her not being interested, that’s a big ‘IF’ that she’s that shy, she needs to work on her social skills, but I personally wouldn’t want to be with a person who has dead end conversations and 0 social skills.


Either way, I am leaning more towards she’s not interested.


I would advise to invest your energy in someone who actually does engage in a conversation & does sound interested, but that’s my opinion.

Try to chat with her out of work. This girl sounds smart and most likely has no intention of chatting to much at work. If you can't get conversation outside work then she isn't interested and she's just being a nice person to be around at work

Bring up something you both share in common and do it immediately instead of starting with, “hi, how are you?” Because that gives the other person the excuse to say nothing of substance. Catching their interest will lead to a conversation.

Do you know any interest of her or anything both of you have in common... Like if both of you might have good conversation earlier then you can try to even more try showing yourself as more depending person for others she might feel comfortable and let her gaurds down... Yoy have tp take it slowly cause she is shy and might have little problem in expressing herself... Don't rush

But you're right. But I would suggest that he doesn't make it seem like a date. Just talk to her like a pal. It can be as simple as a bicycle ride or bowling. Heck, make it about fishing.

I have a cousin that asked a lovely girl out on a first date by just asking her to go smelt dipping with him. (smelt are tiny fish, and you use a net to get 'em.)
