I was at a bar talking to this person. She mentioned something about me having a girlfriend. I said I don’t have a girlfriend. She said why not, do you not want one? Was she implying I was good looking by saying that? Or not?

It's kinda hard to say for sure man, but I think there may have been some interest there. A few reasons I say that:

- She brought up the subject of you having a girlfriend first, so she was already thinkin about that kind of stuff

- When you said you didn't have one, most girls wouldn't just come out and say "why not?" unless they wanted to know your deal

- Asking if you don't want a girlfriend could have been a subtle way of seeing if you're available or interested in dating

- Complimenting guys directly isn't always how it works, sometimes they'll drop hints to test the waters first

I'd say there's a good chance she was feelin you out as a potential boyfriend. Sometimes girls will start a light, casual convo to get a read on a guy before making a move. If you were diggin her vibe too, maybe ask for her number next time! Nothing risked nothing gained bro.

Some girls use the girlfriend thing to indirectly see if you have one or not, without showing her interest, and to gauge your interest or not. Asking if you do not want one is to see if she even has a shot before taking one. She very likely thought you are good looking and was flirting with you...

I think you're reading into it too much. But the meaning of those words is: 1. it was expected that you would be taken; and, 2. you're single status must be a choice. So, yes you could say that the girl found you attractive.
