i'm board & curious so i thought i would asked this question.
i asked a question on another site. about if it was ok reaching out to a past teacher of mine from highschool.
one of the answers i got on it was.
Was it bad? No, absolutely not! It's never bad to reach out to someone. I will only say that when you reached out in aid of your own needs being met, you were actually helping your ex-special Ed teacher in having HER needs met.
It is actually HER that is in need of having someone reach out to her, not you. If you were in need of someone reaching out to you, you would have become a special Ed teacher like her. But obviously your own perceived issues are not as great as her's, otherwise you would have migrated to a career in your life that satiated those mental health issues that you 'think' you have, but in truth you do not.

Woahhh, that response got real deep real quick haha. I can see what they're tryna say though - that being a teacher, especially for special ed, is probably super fulfilling and meaningful for her on a whole different level.
Helping kids who struggle must give crazy purpose and joy, y'know? Like she finds value in giving back and being there for others in a way she maybe needed support herself at some point.
Not that me reaching out is only for my benefit - I genuinely wanna catch up and say thanks for how much she helped me get through some tough times. But I get it, being able to do that for her students day in day out is prob why she loves her job so much.
It's cool they saw it from her perspective too. Guess I never really thought about why SHE chose that career, just that she was so good at helping me. Food for thought fo'sho!
