It’s not 100% true if ALL women — some actually just have to do it for work and then remove or tone it way down to go out — but yes generally speaking, a person who wears so much daily glop on their faces to mask what their actual face looks like tend to be hiding behind that painted on face. (More specifically the ones obsessed with contouring are hiding features they feel insecure about… folks with patchy blemishes might use too much spackle to cover that up, etc.)

In general wearing so much of that stuff leads to unhealthy skin so it’s best to minimize as much as possible (or be proud of your face and go bare).

It depends on the person. For some, yes, and others no. There are jobs that you have to wear makeup at (I had a job like that. I pushed against it personally because the men didn’t have to wear it to be professional), other times women just wear it for self expression and then others will wear it because of self esteem issues

I would say NO. Makeup use varies widely and can be influenced by personal style, cultural norms, profession, social situations, and individual preferences. Unlike guys who barely compliment each other, women tend to give each other compliments left and right, and sometimes even one can wear a little too much and still receive positive responses.

That is one of several possible explanations and it certainly applies to some, but not all, women.

What is true it that men are a diverse group, women are a diverse group, and any attempt to understand ALL men or ALL women with one explanation is misguided and naive.

I don't know about that. One I knew did it for fun. Others do it because they’re convinced they think it’s what we guys want despite poll after poll on here proving otherwise. Others who don’t normally wear it only do it for formal occasions and consider it a part of dressing up
