In the present, the majority of such clothes are actually designed to be snug and comfortable… even the awkward bandeau dresses. Select categories (costumes, gowns, formalwear and certain lingerie) are still painful to wear (and even just to look at), which I can’t explain other than to say the girls who buy them are trying to impress others….
It’s more the painful shoes I wonder about. I’d never give up my comfort the way some girls do for a nonsensically trendy shoe.
I've worn tight clothes and I can tell you that yes, you're right, they're not comfortable at all. It has more to do with whatever happens to be fashionable at the moment, and trends in fashion have never made any sense.
