My daughter is turning 18 next month. I'm cutting down how many pressies I normally buy and giving her cash instead. But I want a few things for her to open. She has a boyfriend but no friends. She is very talented artist. She doesn't like crowds/going out. She plays games online like Red Dead, Bendy, Little nightmares. She hates social media. I don't know what to get her! Maybe some jewellery that says 18 on? Ideas please! I'm not sure what 18 yr olds like. I just went out and got drunk at that age. Or had friends over! I can't remember my mum getting me anything special?
m +1 yAs it’s her 18th, why not a art vacation, either fully on painting or some place where you can both visit decent galleries.
book in some mum n daughter time.
i know over here we have retreats for doing art etc, living in a small group of people and having a weekend or a week painting different things, different styles

+1 yas a mother you should know the best...
we made some dreams came true on 18s of my older kids... I still have some months before the youngest will turn adult and we already talk a lot about it...
you know her... will she enjoy jewelry? or maybe a new motherboard, CPU and GPU for her gaming PC? or maybe shopping with you? online in some favorite shop?
or maybe talk to her and ask her what she wants?

Maybe have a personable art party for her with just you, her boyfriend, and family since she’s the type that may like a small number of crowd with familiarity or a paint night event if you live in the U. S.
another gift idea is getting her a game she may really want :)
Or you could get her new art supplies00 Reply
+1 yIf she and her boyfriend trust each other then there's nothing she and him would love more than a little getaway with just the two of them!
My advice: Get them a romantic/cute Airbnb somewhere with a pretty view :)Just make sure it's not too far from nature hikes or the city. That way they can do whatever they want.

+1 yI’d get her a blue aquamarine and diamond ring. I had one when I turned eighteen that I’ve still got; and I helped one of my guy friends to find one like it for his little sister’s eighteenth birthday (guys are often unsure about girls’ gifts, so I took that over, with his permission); and did some shopping with him. ‘Together’; we selected a lovely big blue aquamarine ring in white gold, surrounded by white diamonds, a white, glittery birthday card with coloured butterflies on it and some chocolate seashells and I gave him a beautiful dolphin paperweight that had been an old gift of mine that I wasn’t using. He got to have his say as to whether he approved of said choices and if he wanted any more ideas for more gifts (he didn’t, for her eighteenth). I may be right or wrong, but I was a shy, innocent girl at that age, too. I adored my ring and I still do now. Good luck 💕

10 ReplyOffer her a way; You can tell her to tell you 5 presents, each one within a set budget you have and varied prices, then you will pick which of the five or all five you want to gift her as a surprise. She won't know what she got but at least she will be happy with what she will get.

+1 yJewellery specifically for 18 and then 21 will mean more to her than anything else you can buy her.. I know because I have a ring from my parents for my 18th, and a watch for my 21st, that are beyond priceless to me.

Thank you, I think you've made a very wise decision. If she's anything like me, you could buy her the world and none of it would matter, but something like that will live with her forever.
+1 yI know they have these books you can make that are filled with photos of life events... maybe a book documenting an important time in her life? Like maybe her school years? Or family trips for example.

Haha she isn't interested in driving yet. We have money put aside abd everything. But meh. She's focused on her Art Studies at 6 form right now. Oh. And with her anxiety won't get a job. Cos if she has a car she needs to pay to put fuel in it and tax etc herself. I offered her a car before I sold it 18mths ago. She was too fussy to accept a "ugly" car. I even said she could graffiti all over it, whatever. Make it an art project 😏
