Why did I get rejected?

So basically a girl at my work place is always staring and smiling at me. At first, I thought she just thought I was weird looking; I’m not particularly ugly or anything, I’m just not used to being stared at.

it got so bad that my manager told me all she does even when I turn my back is stare at me. She sits at my cafe during her break, but I never approached.

This went on for maybe 3 months before I was 80% convinced she liked me 😂. In hindsight writing this up, I should’ve seen the signs but just had no idea. I think she has given me opportunities to talk to her but in my nervousness I didn’t do anything. I haven’t been in a relationship in 4 years and I’m 26 years old.

since the last two weeks, she has stopped looking at me and even saying hi, so I decided I was going to ask her out. After the shops were closed and in front of her coworkers I asked for her number and she told me she had a boyfriend.

did she really have a boyfriend this whole time or did I do something wrong? I can’t figure out why she did this other than she just lost interest. Girl opinions wanted please 🙏🏽
