Long story short: I met a girl at the gym and we dated for a while. It ended two years ago, but we had ups and downs over the next few years as I was rising in the film and TV industry.
A year ago, we stopped talking & I've become a celebrity at home, gaining recognition everywhere. My ex moved on and dated someone for 3 months, it didn’t work out. Seeing my name and presence everywhere started to affect her.
In April, my best friend told me she tried to talk to him about
life, but he suspected she was fishing for any information about me. In May, I saw her at the gym for the first time in months. She was wearing sunglasses, and when I waved at her casually while on the phone, she gave a quick, dismissive wave and left the gym three minutes later.
In June, her close friend began watching my Instagram stories again, and shortly after that, my ex blocked me on Facebook (even though we were never friends there). She had deactivated her Instagram after everything ended, but she didn’t reactivate it until later and then blocked me there as well. I still didn’t react.
Two months later, I saw her at the gym again. I smiled and waved to her, trying to keep it casual. She didn’t really respond, just raised her hand slowly. Meanwhile, my next film was being promoted everywhere, and she likely saw it through the gym's promotions.
A week ago, I found a water bottle at the gym and returned it to the receptionist, only to find out later it was hers. When she picked it up, she got flustered when she learned I had returned it. She told them we hadn’t spoken in months and blocked me so it’s odd that I’d return it. I sent her a casual text about the situation and mentioned a movie idea in relation to her canister we had once discussed that took off but didn’t pressure her for a response.
Two days ago, she saw me at the gym again but I was with the owner and didn’t notice her. Later, she came in the cardio room, saw me and then quickly left the gym. What is going on here?

Dang man, that is some crazy stuff with your ex! It really seems like seeing your success is messing with her head.
I get that it's probably weird for her to see you blow up and be everywhere since you guys used to date. Not every girl can handle their ex doing so well, it must bring up all kinds of feelings for her.
I wouldn't know what to think if I was in your shoes either. On one hand she clearly still thinks about you a lot with all the social media blocking and running away at the gym. But she also gave you the cold shoulder those times you waved.
Girls can be so hard to figure out sometimes! It's like she wants to know what you've been up to but also doesn't want to face it. I'd just give her some space if I were you. Don't push trying to talk, she seems like she needs time to process her emotions.
Keep doing your thing with your career, that's way more important anyways. Maybe she'll come around someday if she gets over whatever is bothering her. But you have so much good stuff going on that you don't need that drama. Your success is probably eating away at her and I bet deep down she regrets you guys not working out!
Just stay cool like it doesn't faze you at all if you run into her. One day she'll probably realize what she's missing now that you're such a big deal! Don't worry about what she's thinking - keep focusing on yourself and your goals. That'll show her the most in the end anyways.
What's going on here is that you're massively overthinking everything
Obviously, I’ve never been in a situation like this
