So this girl knows I like her and all her friends look/stare at me when they see me. She constantly looks at me in class. Also one of her friends tried hitting on me. One time she was talking with her friends outside of school and when they saw me they kept turning quickly to look at me and she was smiling while she was. I also once walked in a class on the first day and her friends started whispering in each others ear and laughing. But I can’t seem to figure out if this is a negative or positive sign. I recently asked her out to dance and said she already had a date but I did ask pretty late.

Well keep trying her friends know she is crushing on you or she has a boyfriend and wants you too!

Girls don't hide group feelings so the group likes you so keep trying or maybe flirt with another girl in the group!

For a dance she might have just gone with her friends group...

Hmmh. The friend hitting on was likely to see if any girl would work for you. Obviously they know you are interested and I think that they are interested in your interest. Not sure if it goes further than that.

Maybe ask straight up if she is single and ask again if she says she is.

The biggest upside is her friend hit on you. Either you were being tested or traded, so they think you are OK.
