Chances are if she didn't recognize his pictures right away, they probably don't know each other that well. Most folks would get weirded out by someone randomly claiming to know them when they don't.

And asking about her work without being upfront could come across creepy too. I get you meant no harm, but she doesn't know your intentions online as a stranger.
