Girls, do you like to watch true crime documentaries? If so, why?

Always curious to know why a lot of women seem interested in watching true crime stuff.

Empathy: I like to identify with and feel remorse for the victims of violent crimes. maybe even trauma bond in a way

Self-preservation: Hoping to learn what signs to look for in a killer or abuser and what to do about it

To further analyze what leads a person to kill or harm others

To see if i could solve the crime myself. i like a mystery

Satisfy a morbid curiosity - feeling relief that im in a much better situation than the victim or victims in the show/documentary are. 'wow i'm sure glad thats not me!'

Other reason

I actually don't like or just not interested in watching true crime stuff

I like watching Homicide Hunter w/ Joe Kenda. It's interesting watching how crimes are investigated. My absolute favorite is Fear Thy Neighbor! It is so scary how quickly and violent things can get with neighbors over something simple. The horrifying thing is, you really can't avoid them, they're always there. Fortunately, I've always had good neighbors.

No, not a fan of true crime. I do like these procedural police murder tv-shows where the main character is not police but works with them. E. g. mentalist, lucifer, blacklist, sherlock, bones, dexter, or fringe.
Some are more fantasy and scifi as well which I like but yeah true crime no thanks. Specifically untruecrime sure. 😅

by the way @Still-alive fun fact, but this is how fascinated with true crime. I went off to university and double majored in criminal justice and forensic science while minoring in psychology (mock crime scenes were my ultimate favorite thing to do while at university). Now I'm in grad school obtaining my Masters in Science degree in Clinical Mental Health cause not only do I want to help adolescents but I also want to learn more about why a person do what they do

Also, that's why I've been gone for so long, I was accepted in grad school and I've been really really busy. But everything is slowly calming down.

So far I have all A's and one B, I've been accepted into the international honor society, I have been doing a lot of volunteering, and if everything goes well I should hopefully be graduating in the spring of 2026.

Whenever I watch true crime I end up not sleeping or feeling weird for days or weeks. I know it's bad for me but sometimes I watch it. I guess I want to be aware of dangerous people and their behavior.

However, I can't say that I watch it often or that I'm a fan. My mom, on the other hand watches true crime on her days off. The same way some people watch movies or series.

It's Halloween time love the creepy real life stories! Would so love to be a episode! My ex girlfriend kidnapped me tortured me with her boyfriend and guts me! He chokes me to death with my own guts and they hide me in a hot tub to be found!

I used to, but I decided to stop because of my mental health. I watched them for psychological reasons; I'd try to put myself in their shoes; what would make someone do what they did, etc.

I love true crime. I watch it for a mix of reasons honestly. I find it just overall fascinating.

I do.. i guess it is like someone spilling the tea.. we are just naturally nosy and love drama.. so learning about some regular Joe or Jane who went off the rails is very interesting.

Because real life brings enough horrible and negative things. Watching more of it on tv just amplifies what's already horrible and hard to deal with. I will deal with stuff as it comes up and is necessary, positive and negative. Mostly, I want to emphasize what is joyful and happy in my life and share that joy with others.
