Girls, Why did she act like nothing happened after 2 years of no contact?

I was invited to this special ceremony by a friend on her special day. As I’m sitting down to waiting on the ceremony to start. I feel someone tap me on my shoulder and asked could she sit down. It was another friend (let’s just call her Catherine).

Last time I spoke to Catherine was 2 years ago. She told me she went through this depressed stage, she was also insecure and she isolated herself and didn’t want to talk or hangout any more. I remember her being angry and everyone around her said how mean she became. She was battling depression. But she felt like she was extra baggage and she didn’t let me tell her otherwise. She asked for space. I was ok with that. Month later I tried texting and calling to no avail. I respected the friendship we had and moved on. She’ll call or text me when she’s ready. That never came. I even texted her a year later. No reply.

2 years later at this ceremony of Catherine and I mutual friend she was happy to talk to me. Told me about the things she’s done since we last spoke. Places she traveled to. That day she was tired because she just got off a 12 hour plane ride to make it back in time. She was pretty much in my skin. She used to hate being touched but loved touching me. Now she’s was enjoying my touch and hugs. She made my plate and made sure I was comfortable. She wanted a hug before we departed again. There was no alcohol there.

She was talking to me this whole time (4 hours straight). Room full of people and she was at my hip. She kept mentioning when she was going back to work which was 2 weeks away. So I figured she wanted to hangout because it was random. We agreed on a day before she go back to work. She even texted me how even though we haven’t spoke in forever she really appreciate our friendship.

I texted her the next day just check on her and wish Catherine a good morning and let her know she was on my mind. No respond.

why did she act like that at the ceremony then didn’t reply the next day?

I never had feelings for her. It was the other way around. It seemed like the closer she started to feel she started to pull away. She then ghosted me for a few years until after we met up recently. She was a different person but in a good way.
