You are suggesting idealistic abstract values at a distance. Looks have pragmatic, concrete benefit immediately. Looks are power and directly affect your self-esteem. Think about how empowering it feels to have a good hair day vs when you haven't showered in a while.
Inner growth is very important in the long term but it's their looks that will get them noticed.
That old lizard brain doesn't care about modern ideals.
They’re not even that modern. A lot of the ideals of inner growth that we have are ancient.
