Also most people on here are wrong. I have have worked part-time jobs in a few bars/clubs and let me tell you my experience.

First, all of them had some kind of dress code regulation but none of them required you to wear anything skimpy.

Second, dressing skimpy doesn't really result in more tips. The type of location and your interaction with the customer has way bigger impact than showing a few cm of extra skin.

So why dress "revealing"? Some of those places can get hot and stuffy especially if it's super crowded. You do not want to stand there for many hours in clothes that make you sweat. Also, a lot of people who work there are people who like to go clubbing/party themselves. In some places the dress code encourages you to blend in so people wear what they would wear when going out themselves.

It's surprising to see these answers and that not a single one is correct. I work at a club/bar. We get hundreds of people on a crowded night even in the winter. It is a downtown club and close to a college campus. While I don't wear a short skirt, I do wear short shorts and a low cut top. My question to everyone is that do you think I have a choice? 90% of the downtown bars and clubs have dress requirements for (and you'll love this) girls. I've worked in a number of them in the city i live in while I'm finishing school. Every single one has required me to wear certain revealing clothing. While everyone here claims it is for my benefit of making more tips (somewhat true but not really) it is for the club or bars owner benefit. You see.. the more scantily clad girls you have the more thirsty (in more than one way) you get at you establishment. That only brings UP the owner's bottom line. We not see nearly the benefit they do by REQUIRING us to dress a certain way.

Also another really good indicator is that almost all big clubs or bars... bartenders tips are pooled. So that gives me little incentive to dress a certain way to earn more tips for me fellow male bartenders.

On occasion, I go out with friends to the more local type bar where you are going to see large crowds or have to put up with loud music and crazy college students. Even there it is pretty easy to tell which have a dress code and which don't. You just have to ask yourself "are the girls all dressed similarly?". If they are all wearing the same attire (and I don't mean matching uniforms but style) I'll bet you the next round for you and all your friends that management has a requirement. If you see some girls wearing jeans and normal tops to varying degrees then they have a choice. I'm not saying that it never happens that a girl will maximize her assets for tips. I'm saying it is much more rare than one thinks. Especially true when probably 95% of (pubs/bars, clubs, dance clubs, martini bars, etc) pool tips. The girl working at the Rusty Wheel in Thatcher, AZ might be an exception for the 5 patrons she sees a night.

Hooters girls ARE forced to wear those clothes. Some don't like it, some not only love it but make it even skimpier than required.
My first fiance used to waitress at a slightly high-class place. It was casual attire for the customers but, most often, they'd get a little dressed up if they were gonna eat there. From what I recall, the girls at the bar mostly wore jeans or stretch pants & a t-shirt, maybe shorts in the warmer months. My fiance, as a waitress, HAD to wear a white button-down long-sleeve shirt under a black vest and black pants.
One of the regulars that hung out at the bar once told me about a place where the waitresses all HAD to wear mini skirts, kinda like what's in the pictures here, with high heels and they walked ON the tables so the guys could look up their skirts!
A few blocks away from my fiance's job, there was a bar owned by a biker and he allowed his waitresses to wear next to nothing! The last time I was there, the waitress was wearing an incredibly skimpy flesh-coloured latex thing. Any skimpier and she WOULD'VE been naked! Because of the lighting, she looked like she WAS naked.

@es20490446e finally someone who gets it. Yes, some girls dress slutty because they like to. 99.9% of the time they are the ones visiting the bar as patrons and not the ones wanting to earn a wage. I have to abide by what the establishment requires I wear or work somewhere else and make far, far less. Then I can't pay for my student loans, apartment, gas, etc and etc and get railed against by the same people replying for not being able to do so. Funny how that works.

Perhaps the people replying would like to write my employer instead of me. Some kind of dress code in those places are common. Dress code that requires you to dress "slutty" is not. You can clearly tell from this picture also that it's her choice to wear this skirt because her female coworker is wearing pants.

I've worked in a few places and while there are sometimes dress code and there's a double standard between male and female employees, I've never experienced a place where someone was forced to wear something they felt uncomfortable with. Not saying they don't exist, but it's not the norm.

Also I agree with tips. First dresses more revealing doesn't result in much more tips. Second as mentioned they are often gathered in a common pool so there's little incentive to do something you're not comfortable with just to get later a fraction of it.

If you see a bartender work on a miniskirt it might be a dress code. If you see her wear a miniskirt that barely covers her ass it's probably her choice. You can easily tell by looking at her colleagues

Sure they have a choice. They can go get a job where they aren't required to use their bodies to attract customers and get tips. Take that argument to the next level. No one forces a stripper to work in a strip club. They make that choice because it's the easiest way to make money for a young woman with good looks.
