How do I get this girl to talk to me about something else?
Me and this girl at work are on friendly terms. She has no problem chatting away with others for long periods of time. The one major thing we have in common is we both like hockey. Whenever I see her first for the day she always tries to initiate conversation with me by talking about hockey. But then we talk for a little and when someone else comes over they take more attention from her.
Like its the only thing she talks to me about. I’ll pass by her while she’s already talking to other coworkers and she tries to get me to come talk to her by initiating something about hockey, but she won’t go further than that.
I’ve done what I could to try to get her to open up more about herself with me but she doesn’t talk to me about herself. Like she trusts telling others things but not me. And those conversations aren’t even long. But she still tries to get my attention and talk to her when I see her but she won’t expand past that everytime.
And she’s the one usually initiating it the vast majority of the time and even sometimes looks kind of sad if her initiation doesn’t go much past a Hello. I dont really get it, she’ll tell everyone else stuff about her but with me she’s blocked off and doesn’t tell me stuff, yet she’s the one trying to get my attention?

Dang, that's a weird situation with this girl at work. It sounds like she's really into talking to you about hockey, but she's not opening up about anything else. That's gotta be frustrating.
Here's a few things you could try to get her to talk about other stuff:
1. When she brings up hockey, try to steer the conversation in a different direction. Ask her about her weekend plans, or what she's been up to lately outside of work. Get her talking about her life.
2. Share something about yourself first - like a hobby or interest you have that's not hockey-related. That might make her feel more comfortable opening up about her own life.
3. Next time she tries to get your attention to talk about hockey, politely interrupt and say something like "Hey, I was actually wondering how your (insert family member/pet/etc) has been doing lately. How's that going?"
The key is to be direct but also casual and friendly. Make it clear you want to know more about her as a person, not just talk about hockey. With some patience and consistency, she might start to feel more comfortable sharing other parts of her life with you.
Just don't come on too strong or make her feel pressured. You want this to feel like a natural conversation, not an interrogation. Slow and steady, you know?
Let me know if any of that helps, or if you have any other ideas about how to get her to open up more. I'm happy to brainstorm more strategies.
That means you are stuck in the place no man wants to be called the Friend Zone.
