Why do so many girls and grown women up-talk? Where did you learn to do that? Who taught you?

Ha. This is a very interesting question, I never thought about that but you're right. I will say that I mostly ever hear it in American female speech, never really in women from other countries unless they've been here a long time. But I hear it in some guys as well.

But I think it could be a subconscious thing from American women being taught at a young age to be somewhat sassy, so then spills over into speech that isn't supposed to be sassy. Because when you think about it, uptalking is sounding like you're asking a question out of a non-question statement, almost like you're trying to be sarcastic or smart-ass.
