Why does my mom hint at my body odor only around other people?

I struggle with my body odor and it’s not because I don’t shower. I shower regularly, brush my teeth and wear clean clothing.

I’ve noticed that my mom will never tell me that I stink even when I ask her if I have a body odor. I’ve noticed that when I’ve gotten in her car with other people she would lower her window or when she brings people over she would say “what’s that smell?”. One days she asked me what I was cooking fish or chicken.

I have ever struggling with a horrible body odor for the longest and whenever I ask her if I stink she always says no. I always notice a smile in her face when I ask her this.

Your mom could have nose blindness at this point, and if you’re always around each other then she’s gotten used to the scents. But she also knows you tend to have a smell and wants to spare you any embarrassment, so she preemptively rolls down the window. Or when you’re in the house, she suggests something else is stinking before anyone could notice your smell. Even if there’s nothing else smelly, she’s just making sure. I’m sorry, I’m sure that whole thing is embarrassing.
