Did I accidentally kill the conversation, or was "wyd" just a dead-end text?

A girl texted me "wyd" in the afternoon. I replied with "about to shower, wyd?" and she never responded.

On one hand, I feel like telling someone you're about to shower puts a temporary pause on the chat. On the other hand, "wyd" is already a low-effort opener, so maybe neither of us gave the other much to work with.

Did my response kill the momentum, or was this interaction already dead in the water? How should I handle this kind of text next time?
