Why does my voice change depending on who I'm talking to?

I seriously sound twice as light voiced talking to my mom or dad but then everyone else unless it is a big ass dood my voice sounds deep and manly?

My voice gets higher when I'm talking to people I'm afraid of and then gets lower when talking to people I dominate. Weird.

Luckily most girls get the low voice. Haha. But if I"m talking to my parents for example and a girl is around I sound less manly :(

It has to do with the people you are around actually.

The softer voice is more of a vulnerability thing, and you feel safe and non threatened by your parents so they get that tone.

Around other men, you are subconsciously flexing your power/strength/manliness to each other, hence the deeper voice.

Same goes for women. Women are subconsciously attracted to deeper voices because its supposed to mean that they are fertile and have plenty of testosterone.

I think it happens to most people , but I agree with madmisskelly . . All my friends have noticed that when I talk to my family or younger kids , I have a really soft-tone voice . and vice versa when i`m talking to anyone else .

when my ex used to talk to me he was nervous a lot I guess, I didn't notice till now you asked this question.

I think that happens to everyone, to guys I have a sweeter light pitched voice but around people I know it becomes monotoned.

Anxiety makes people's voices higher, and I'd imagine that guys put on a deeper voice when they're trying to be badasses.

Not true, I'm actually a very manly dude, just a little short, but I could kick most guys asses.
