Why do you like going to the beach? (Page 2)

Question

I saw a question about what people are going to wear on the beach.
It got me thinking. 
What is it with people's fascination about going to the beach? I don't get it.
Personally you couldn't pay me enough to go there. 
There may be 10 things I will never do in my lifetime (by choice). And going to the beach would be in the top 2. Actually it would be #1.
So tell me people. What's the big deal?

Surfcasting and just enjoying nature.. I don't swim in the ocean though.

I suppose it's nice to lay on the sand. I actually like playing in the waves a lot. And the salt water is good for your legs.

i've never been a fan becuz of the dang sun and sticky sand and fire ants... BUT i do enjoy the breeze and hot Asian girls (if there are any which i have failed to notice)

I like to go to the beach because I enjoy wearing swimwear, hanging with friends, socialize with people and of course play soccer or volleyball.
