What does it mean when a guy says he doesn't want to lose you?

Lately I’ve been casually seeing a guy who recently talked to a mutual friend saying he doesn’t want to ‘lose’ me. I know I’m not exactly super forward with my emotions, as I don’t know what I want. But to be fair, he told the person he doesn’t want a relationship, and isn’t sure if he has the drive to give me what I want/what I deserve. He knows I'm a flirt, and made comments about me talking to "too many guys" multiple times, even going as far as saying I should "cover up a bit more" and he's "just looking out for me."
What’s his deal, he likes me and doesn’t want to lose me, but doesn’t want a relationship either? Any clue what he may want?

He doesn't wanna lose you. But he doesn't wanna be in a relationship with you because of what he's said that you quoted.. decent/good guys don't like a girl who shows her stuff and gets pretty all the time. They want a girl who will show off only for them. Plus a girl who has/is talking to a lot of guys is a turn off.. and his way of looking out for you is you attract the wrong guys by dressing and hanging around them.. all in all he wants you but not the girl you are out to be right now.

The thing is, trust me, I always make sure to be covered up in the right places. I'll be wearing leggings and an oversize flannel shirt, and he jokes that I should cover up. Most of the guys I talk to are buddies, guys I've known for 10 or more years. He knows I respect myself, and he's told me I'm "different" than many girls he's met in that aspect. It's like he doesn't want to commit to me right now, but at the same time, doesn't want me to commit/get involved with some other guy. Is that possible?

I think secretly he wants nothing more than to be with you BUT.. the fact that you hang a lot with other guys and dress too sexy (for his liking) is probably too much for him to handle. Make sense?
