What does it mean when a guy puts his finger almost in your mouth when you are spooning?

I slept round my boyfriends house for the first time (note: we haven't had sex yet) and he was kissing my face and stuff and wrapped his arms over the top of me.

He started stroking like the bottom part of my face. Then he rested one of his fingers on my lips in between them. Did he want me to put his finger in my mouth? I didn't really know what to do. Felt like quite a dominant thing for him to do.
What does it mean if a guy strokes you face like this and puts one of his fingers almost in your mouth?

It's usually associated with other things going into your mouth. He might have been hinting and it might even have been subconscious and he might not have realized it. Some guys actually like having their fingers sucked as an alternative to you doing other stuff. They'll just use their imagination, and then... go use the bathroom... *cough*.
