Is a friend rubbing another friend's thigh normal?

I was hanging out with my guy friend. We were watching a tv show on his bed. While we were watching it, he reached over and started to rub my upper thigh. While he was doing it, he said my jeans were really soft and I just said that girls jeans are usually softer than guy's jeans. He didn't say anything, but kept rubbing my thigh. I moved his hand away and then he asked if I was scared and I said I wasn't. He started to rub my thigh again for a while. I'm just confused why he did it. Is it really because my jeans were soft or was he thinking about something else. Thanks!

I've had a few incidents like that, I think all girls have.
If I take the guys hand away, I do it gently, and just tell him I'm not ready for anything like that.
I don't like to hurt guys feelings, but you've got to be pretty quick about stuff like that.
Too many girls wait too long, until things are getting all out of hand, and all of sudden it starts to get rough.
The girl has some responsibility here too, and early warning systems should kick in to protect both of you.
Now he put his hand back on you, and I'm outta there.
He was warned and lacked the respect I would require.

I guess I was trying to avoid thinking that way because we have been friends for awhile and didn't think he would try something. I guess I also thought he wasn't attracted to me in that way. So now I know if he does it again to say that. Usually he is respectful of me, but I'm not sure why this time he wasn't.

I am pretty straightforward with guys.
If I'm attracted to him sexually I let him know it.
I really don't beat around the bush too much.
I lay ground rules which usually means no intercourse, but almost everything else.
This works for me and I'm gonna say has worked for every guy I have known like that.
That cutesy tease and denial crap can end up with the girl having an awful experience, and the guy in jail.
Losers all around.

That's good to know. Now I know at least he is attracted to me. I actually don't just like him as a friend and he knows that, but that's the first time that is actually done that.

It's weird, when I hung out with him a few days later he asked me if I was scared of him. According to him I was trembling when I laid now next to him or when we were standing up he stood super close with his face only a couple inches away. I told him I was scared because I was going to fall off the high twin size bed. There was space between the mattress and the frame so I was on the edge. When stands too close, I'm not scared but nervous. I told him I'm not scared of him, but I don't think he believed me.
