Guy's Behavior

What does it mean, when a guy has a prolonged stare and doesn't break the eye contact, until you do?

I have a night class, where there is a very attractive guy who sits in front (I sit towardsathe back against the wall). I often look up or catch, him either staring towards my way or out of the corner of his eye. It's has had me puzzled, as to why he may be doing so and while I am a very shy girl, who only talks to those who I feel comfortable around; in other words never spoken a single word to him. He speaks to others and his friend & never has spoken a word to me, or even has tried. There were two incidents (there are various) that stood out, once I dropped my canteen which made a big noise and everyone looked back at to the source, I blushed in embarrassment and saw him attention lingered even after getting my canteen me with his blank expression. Another time, while I do come off as bitchy/scary by my body language (it sort of got that way after being treating badly by people) and I looked over by the other exited door (I was exiting from the stairway), for some reason I glance over, it was him and his friend exiting the same time as I was. Somehow, both locked eyes for long duration of time and his face, went from smiling to serious expression and mine was just like my average everyday expression; keep in mind I try to smile at him but I always freeze up and never squeeze out even a little smile. lol This has been a daily occurrence (since I began to notice), whenever I have the class and I always catch eye contact, where he never even tries to smile or I dont look long enough now for him to do so (tend to get nervous when I see an attractive guy looking my way). I feel like either he just utterly dislikes me or something? Therefore, can he also tell that I find him attractive and that's why he's seems to be more attentive? What do you think?
