How much do guys appreciate a compliment from a woman?

Lately I have been very confused about the topic about guys and what they think about girls complimenting them. Many guys will say that they don't like to receive compliments when I give them a compliment, while others are saying we should compliment a guy and he would secretly appreciate a compliment. Plus if i compliment him too much, when he doesn't like receiving compliments, wouldn't that just make him uncomfortable and drive him away? Why does he compliment me so much if he says he hates compliments? There is a quote "women fall in love with their ears, while a man falls in love with his eyes," so is there a reason for me to compliment him then if it's only woman who like hearing it?

Everyone loves receiving compliments. Even if it's from someone we don't like, imagine if it's coming from a friend or a crush. We love them! At least I know I do.
Sometimes when my ego is crushed, if someone gives me a compliment, I'll be happy the rest of the day.

I generally don't care at all. Sometimes it's even annoying. If it's the right person, and they're saying something genuine and non generic then cool. :)

I like compliments but not overboard as in not every 5 seconds but a complement every now and then is nice
