How do you show a girl you're interested?

I'm really shy and most times when I'm near a girl I'm interested in, I do everything in my power to ignore them - I know I shouldn't and this clearly does not work, but its just something that I've done my whole life.

I know people say 'just go and talk to them', and in theory that sounds great, however when I'm at school - NOBODY seems to try talking to strangers. All the other guys are like me - they just seem to ignore everyone around them. The girls are the same way, they just ignore me and don't even acknowledge I'm even there most times...I mean I read lots of tips here, but when I'm at school, its like people change -p everybody just keeps to themselves which would make me feel like a complete idiot trying to talk to someone I'm interested in. I'm just really frustrated - I appreciate what most of you say when you say 'just go talk to them! Just go ask them out!', and in theory that's a great idea - but in practice, I don't see ANYONE ever do this. Everyone is just so intimidating...

Eye contact. You know how two people tend to not look each other in the eye for too long? That there’s usually a time limit before both people look away? Well, if you like this girl, maintain eye contact just a little longer than the time limit. Look at her just a little longer than necessary. Then give her a little smile before looking away. Don’t stare, don’t glue your eyes to her all the time. Just don’t be afraid to show that you like looking at her. =]

Make her laugh. It’s one thing to get her to talk comfortably with you. It’s another thing for her to enjoy talking to you, so much so that she remembers how much she enjoys talking to you. Be at your wittiest and most charming, put some effort into making her laugh. Don’t be too shy to say something like, “Hey, wanna hear a joke?” Then tell her a dozen jokes, one after another. Let her know that you’re purposely trying to make her happy.

Remember the things she says. Listen to what she has to say, then show her that you listened. If she mentioned her dog Poochie, greet her with “Hi, how’s Poochie?” the next time you see her. If she mentioned she has trouble sleeping, ask her if she slept well the next day. If she likes a certain TV show, find out when the show airs, then ask her how was last night’s episode the next day. Better yet, watch the show, so that you can talk about it with her. You can even tell her you didn’t like the show – the fact that you watched it just because of her is flattering enough.

Physical proximity/contact. This is a tricky one, so be very careful. Position yourself closer to her – not too close, but a little closer than normal. You know the distance between friends, and the distance between boyfriend and gf? You want to be exactly halfway in-between. (And better make sure you’re wearing deodorant!) Similarly, give her a little touch every now and then, but be careful. Touch her shoulder when you want to get her attention. When talking to her, pat her on her arm to emphasize a point; if you’ve gotten close enough to her, you can try her thigh. When walking together, put your hand on the small of her back to guide her in a different direction. Just don’t let your hand linger there too long.

You know what’s the best thing about all these? They are measurable. Meaning, you will know instantly whether or not they’re working. If she likes you, she will return the eye contact with you; she will laugh at all your jokes; she will appreciate the fact that you remember things about her; she will stand close to you, and she will touch you. If she doesn’t, then you’ll know she’s not interested. By doing these things, you’re not only showing her you like her, you’re also giving her the option of gently rejecting you – or subtly encouraging you.

Just try saying "hi" first, and smile. Even if that's all that happens between you, the next time you see each other, you could build on that.

Hey I understand that its hard to know just how to act around the person you like...it's generally even harder for guys since they are expected to make the first move...having said that, just remember that ignoring the person you like will not get you anywhere! If a girl thinks that a guy doesn't notice her then chances are she will stop noticing him after a while. There are some very easy, relatively subtle ways to show your interest in a girl without walking up to her and straight out asking her out...

1. First, it's important to establish eye contact. Simply...look at her BUT NOT I repeat NOT for a creepy amount of time. Try to catch her eye and when you do...give her a small smile, its okay to look shy just as long as you get her attention.

2. Notice things about her...not clothes really because it might make you sound like you are trying too hard..but general things like if she's wearing her hair up say something like it shows off her face or a simple "you look nice today" will do..

3. Tease her...once you get a conversation going its okay to tease the girl you like...teasing sounds juvenile but its actually a great and casual way to let a girl know you are interested...my current boyfriend used to make fun of me at wrk but if he ever thought I was taking it seriously he would give me a one armed hug and he would tell me he's just messing and that he thought I'm gorgeous or cute or whatever...he still does it actually and it still makes me smile

Finally, honestly, confidence is the key to approaching girls and if you don't naturally have that confidence the only way you will get it is...by practising! If a girl senses that you feel awkward talking to her then chances are she's going to start feeling awkward too and you definitely don't want that! So good luck!

Lol, I'm like that too, well mixed. well first off, whenever you see her try to smile at her and it doesn't have to be a big smile but like a friendly "i like you smile"

stare at her, not in a creepy way, but not alot. it would make her think you're a creep.

try and stare into her eyes for 3 seconds and let go.

say hi. trust me I know its hard to go up and talk to someone you like, but you gotta get through and after you at least talked to her for a little bit, you'll be really glad you did. I was and it mad me just that much more confident.

Okay I understand that you are shy. But if you honestly like a girl you can glance at her and when she looks at you, make brief eye contact and look away. This will get a girls interest trust me. Then she may come and talk to you and then just go with the flow. If she doesn't come talk to you then make an effort to accidentally bumping into her and appologizing to her for that. This should help you in the girl department.
