Guys, when you "say you hair looks nice today" to a girl. What is on your mind?

This guys is an introverted. He doesn't talk much and always gives a dead end answers to my questions so I named him "robot" lol But sometimes he'll try to make me laugh so I like that side of him. I think it's cute.
Today he came around and said "btw your hair looks nice today.." he couldn't even look directly at me while saying that. It kind of surprises. So what do you guys think?
