I came out to one of my friends that I had a crush on last year. He rejected me, after I spent a month building up the courage to talk to him, but do you know what made me not feel crap?

He told me that he respected me even more. That by having the guts to tell him, knowing what the outcomes could be and still going through with it, that he saw me as a braver and more confident person.

I can't imagine how awkward you must feel, having to tell him no, but make sure he knows that things aren't going to change between you two (at least I hope it won't? It'd be shit for him to lose his best friend too, on top of being rejected).

What ever you do, do not shut him down and make him feel terrible about it. No invalidating him whatsoever, he’s more than likely very vulnerable at the moment. Try and ask him why, and kindly reason with him that you’re straight. As a teenager myself I’ve been confused about my own sexuality, wondering if I’m in love with my own best friend or not. It’s more than likely that he’s confusing your close friendship with love.

Explain to him what your preferences are but still be there for him if he is your best friend. He sounds like he is still a bit confused himself, so maybe you guys need to talk. The last thing either of you guys want is to lose your best mate. I myself have had one of my close friends tell me she likes me and I had to explain to her I only like guys. we are still pretty close.
