It seems like a female equivalent to people who call other men "guy". Assuming that it obviously isn't an aristocratic title reference to Lord and Lady. It irks me when people call me guy or buddy (especially buddy) and so I generally either put up with it if I don't have to talk to them a lot, or let them know that it bothers me.
Termof endearment i have a friend calls his wife Corazon meanimg heart en Espanol. there were folks in maine called there wives mother. He uses it like a petname. Probably with his friends also my lady this and my lady that my lady's calling.
I think it is nice and respectful.
