Becoming infatuated happens easily when you’re young but it can happen to anyone. Infatuation is your brain confusing you into feeling “love” when you barely know a person at all. Real love takes time to grow. Infatuation can happen in an instant, and it doesn’t take knowledge of the person to manifest. In fact, knowing the person dispels any chance of infatuation, and that’s the reason why sisters and brothers don’t fall in love.

So what causes it? Usually the look, talent, or popularity and status of the person, and projecting the imagined ideal personality and reciprocity of feelings onto the other person.

If I let my imagination run amok, I would be head over heels for Sara Bareilles. She’s super talented and very pretty, but that’s literally all I know about her. Carrying a torch for her is just not a realistic way to live. With wisdom, guys (and girls, of course) are less likely to fool themselves into this pattern of thought.
