Guys, Do guys appreciate being checked in on?

Hi! So, there's this guy at school, pretty popular but it seems like he's not been doing well mentally. I don't want to go too into depth but a lot of his friends say he isn't doing too good from a mental standpoint, so I was thinking of trying to give him something small like a piece of candy or something and just checking in on him like hey how's your day been, etc. Would a guy appreciate this or no? T. I. A.

It's a tough one... It highly depends on his age and the way he is treated at home.
During childhood, boys and girls tend to get the same amount of attention from their parents and surroundings. However after puberty period, women tend to absorb nearly 100% of that care and attention from surrounding environment. That's why women talking about abusive relationship get national coverage while men get 10k views on YouTube... So if he is already grown up man (above 20 years old) he may be weirded out by you checking in on him. Simply because most likely no one has done so outside his mother for a long time. However if he is a kid (below 16) then you should be fine and he should appreciate it.
As I mention it also depends on how he is treated at home. If his parents and siblings give him more attention than the average, then he will be more used to it and will react more positively on your action.

He's 17. He has siblings both younger and older. Pretty much what I've heard is that his parents hold really high expectations to him which is why I want to check in on him.

At this age, it's impossible to predict anything. His hormones are in such a mess that he may punch you in the face, run away, kiss you on the spot or get a boner. Anything goes really...

Lol. Yeah usually if I try to talk to him he gets a bit red in the face and goes quiet.

Then he likes you. Or at least finds you attractive. Or at the very least finds the situation of a girl talking to him "exciting".

My female friend at work did something like that for me. When I barely knew her, she gave me a hug and wrote me a letter. It was one of the nicest things a woman has ever done for me. It made me fall for her at first until I found out she was already in a relationship. So I just decided to make her a friend. Till this day, I think we can be friends for the rest of our lives.

That's nice to hear. I just want to check in and make sure he's doing okay. I figured just like a small piece of candy as a peace offering is simple enough to start up a conversation.

It’s up to you. If you care about him, do it. My female friend still checks up on me from time to time.

You sound like a caring person and random acts of kindness are always the way to go. We all are fighting some kind of issue or battle. Does he appear to have any friends ( girl friend or boyfriend?) What grade is he in? Maybe you can mention it to a school counselor?

He has a lot of friends but they're not exactly the type to get all gooey and actually do something to help him. He's fairly popular but he definitely supresses his emotions

Well, it depends on why you're doing it. I mean, do you like the guy, are you just being polite, or are you "just friends".

We do like it, because it shows you're thinking about us, but before you do, you better check yo self, about WHY you're doing it. Don't lead us on!
