My little brother was made fun of because of his drawings, what should I say to comfort him?

He's about 15 and loves to draw always has but recently he gets secretive about what he's been drawing, will like even try hide them but i am nosy ill admit so i do peak around now and then lol. So the other day I went to go get him from school and he was upset because people had made fun of him or something. I asked why and what for and he said my drawings. He then quite nervously gave me his art book and said '' I want you to have a look but don't tell anyone okay..'' okay sure I promise I said.

I don't know why but I was expecting like violent stuff, but it really was quite the opposite actually. just lots of drawings of anime guys and blushing faces lol which I thought was cute, and as I continued looking the guys became more visual and seemed softly erotic. and some of the characters even looked a bit like him.

He kinda had his head down the whole time while i was looking but i just said something like '' dude these are really nice, good job but I do think these guys are missing some girls in there too, maybe you should draw some too.'' and he kinda went mmm mm yea il try

I think he's still a bit down though so what else should i do?

I mean they are probably making fun of him because he is drawing anime characters and dudes looking kind of gay. Seems ripe for the picking in high school. Anime is nerdy for the most part, even now.

What can you do? Well, you could be honest with him and tell him that is probably the reason why. But if that is what he wants to draw, then who cares what they think.

Most of them will be losers in the future, and at least you have a talent. Most people go their whole lives never discovering theirs, and he is lucky to know so early. I'm sure none of them could draw as well as you, etc.

Overall, don't lie to him. Give him the information, and allow him to decide what he wants to do with that. But you can encourage him, that despite what they think he should continue to draw if he enjoys it.

If he wants to win them over, maybe he can draw something that they think it funny or something. Might take some of the heat off of him, and give them a new perspective on his talent. Could also backfire, so be careful with that.

I was the art kid, I had people asking me to draw them stupid shit all the time. Like a dog licking it's own balls, or the teacher doing stupid shit, etc... He can turn this into something people seek him out for, not make fun of.

One important detail about becoming a MAN is to learn how to accept set-backs.
Don't grant him a ''participation trophy'' - that helps no one.
I'd rather suggest to analyze - together, perhaps - the reasons and mechanisms for his... ''negative reviews".
And maybe he also figures out that being a ''people-pleaser'' is not the most important thing in life. Myself, I always felt somewhat proud about NOT being one-in-a-million only.

Don't get me wrong. I am definitely not passing judgement here, but I think there could be something going on that you're missing Have you considered the possibility he could be having gay tenancies?

It would explain why his drawings are getting laughed at, even though you say they are very good.

It did raise the question what if there's something more to this like him questioning himself and maybe playing out these thoughts in his drawings as a way to cope. I didn't really want to be like ''hey these are pretty gay looking pictures'' and make him pull away more and not open up to me

No of course not.. but something like "you know you can tell me ANYTHING I'm always here for you.. " just a reassuring line like that will go a long way.

tbh I already said something similar, but i dunno if he got what I meant. honestly I dont think he trusts girls that much because he's been hurt by them more emotionally I think almost more than guys

You are a good sister. Obviously he likes drawing and being denigrated by peers was pretty bad. Explain to him that people who can do and people who can't ridicule those who can. It says more about their inadequacies then his.

I think you are doing good by expressing yur appreciation of his work.

Maybe insist he does a drawing of you and frame it.

So just a thought but you sure he’s not into men? I say this because of how you explained it, also you mentioned some of them looked like him. So maybe people were saying something like dude you’re a queer or whatever the term is used these days. You sure it’s purely cause everyone thought his drawings sucked?
