Why did he asked me if I love him?

I was looking for a new flate amd found a flat to share with a man. I speak a different language and we were speaking about my nationalty and i asked him he knows anything in my language. He than said i love you in my language and i translated it. He than asked me : " do you really love me? Do you love me?". y'all get it right? Like i would have said that but i was just translating? Get it?

Anyways i feel like he wnated to test me and see how i react?
