So we are both in serious relationships with other people. He started telling me he is always thinking about me, has been anxious to get to talk to me, and that he misses me. Is this a problem or is he being friendly I really like him a lot but I don’t want to hurt him because It can’t go anywhere.

You can tell a traditional man loves you, by his willingness to provide structure to your life.

Non traditional men.. well it's a little harder, their idea of love is a lot more different and revolves around fun. I'd say one truth would be, their willingness to go out with you often. Hold your hand in public settings.
