I've made a group of friends and we became really close and I became close with one of the guys. I noticed that every time we hang out he sits really close/next to me because we both became super comfortable with each other. When he sat next to me while we were all having a convo he leaned in towards me and had his arm on my chair and we unintentionally touched each other as he was trying to talk with other people. I've noticed he tends to do this a lot when we are in a big group.

It absolutely sounds like he's very comfortable with you. Maybe even somewhat protective of you. But without knowing more, I can't tell if it's romantic interest or strictly platonic.

It may very well be! And if it stays at that level, awesome, a friend like that is great to have.

I will caution you though- should you (or both) develop romantic feelings for each other, it may come into conflict with your friend group. Since you've got mutual friends, they may feel unwelcome while with you, or if the relationship ends poorly, it will be very awkward and you may even lose some good friends. Just keep that in mind.

yes for sure - definitely need to keep them in mind! but im more then happy to be friends because he's been one of the most amazing people was just so surprised by our friendship didn't expect us to be so close!

it’s possible, but you might be overthinking it. next time he put his arm over you or something, try leaning into him and see what he does ;)
