There could be so many reasons, however with this little information and said in a blunt manner, consciously or not he wishes he could still bed you, or at the least has fond memories of that and is sorta overwatching, when I was young, maybe between 16-19 I had an ongoing casual thing with a girl, we were like fire and water and for a long time after that ended we would sorta talk every few months just to see how each other's life was, when hers was going bad or mine was going well she would tell me to come to her house for obvious reasons, when I was drinking heavily I'd message her, sometimes even when shit was toxic it can be hard to just ignore
