Is it too forward to invite a guy (who knows I like him) to join a group of friends to do a specific activity together?

Or should I just assume that if he wanted to join the group for the event, he would have said so without me specifically asking him, and that I should just wait until he invites me to join group events? He had said it hurts him when people don't specifically ask him to join group outings, whereby they just send out general invites to the group. So that makes things complicated.

if you want to meet him halfway, just ask him in passing if he is going. If he complains that no one sent him anything individually just remind him that it was a group invite and everybody’s welcome. No one needs a special invitation. You can finish it up with.“Hope to see you there“ or. “Your choice” as you walk away.

I think that is entirely up to you, maybe ask him to join in on certain activities that you want him to include him and no invite on those you'd rather attend on your own.

Being with someone doesn't mean you have to include them in everything you do with friends... and the guy should not be hurt if you don't invite him. They're your friends and you should be allowed to hang with them as you please.
