Why do men gossip together about women or one woman in particular?

I am a single woman who lives alone in a big city centre. It's an upmarket neighborhood. I am divorced with kids. I mind my own business.

I haven't had any relationships with anyone but it seems like a good chunk of these dudes are gossiping about me.

Why do men get together and gossip about a woman?
