Is this disrespectful?

I work with my husband. He has been sick for the past couple of days. I had a coworker come say good morning and ask how he was doing. He was back and I said he was okay and back at work. My husband jumps in and says my wife doesn’t speak for me. But I’m here.

I was thrown of a bit by this and told him as such. His response was that he was joking with me. I didn’t find it all that funny. More on the line of disrespectful? I don't know

No I would agree with you that it isn't funny and does come off as disrespectful. You were just trying to be friendly and answer a question a coworker asked. The thing that makes it disrespectful to me is that your husband wasn't even part of the conversation or at least that is the way the situation reads. To just step in and talk over you would irritate the hell out of me. Not to mention the "joke" was in poor taste. No need to talk down to you in front of others because of that coworker didn't get the joke either then guess what he is thinking?

I made it a point to let him know that it was disrespectful in my eyes and that it was a “joke” made in poor taste. I could tell my coworker took it the wrong way. A few of my coworkers have seen this kind of behavior. Some have even made comments about it.

Not sure why his personality shifts at work. But it definitely has to stop.

I don’t want people at work thinking it’s okay that he, or anyone else can speak about me like that. Especially being in a male dominated industry. Made a point of telling him that too.

We are a team in and out of work and it needs to be represented as such.

That's funny. He's your husband trying to "wear the pants" and assert himself with something as banal as his health status. Guess the joke didn't land, but it wasn't disrespectful.

Yeah, it was. I don't think it's something to make a huge deal about, but that's up to you.

A little, but I don't think it's worth making a big deal out of it. Unless this is something he does a lot, it's safe to assume in his mind he was really just making a joke, even though it wasn't a funny one.
