Why does he call me pretty/beautiful if he has a girlfriend?

My crush loves to call me pretty and stare at me but recently he just told me he has a girlfriend. I kinda knew he had a girlfriend bc he would act secretive and avoid certain topics. But now he told me he's got a girlfriend and seeing her for a whole month in her home state.

But why does he stare at me and call me so pretty if he had a girlfriend?
