Why was he looking at my shoes?

Walked into a room to say hi to my guy friend and hang out 1 and 1. As I walked in walking towards him and saying hey, I noticed he looked down to my shoes - it was a bit weird and I remember feeling self conscious thinking what is he looking at… he was already sitting down. Any ideas? :/

1. He was told to find something to notice and compliment about a girl other than her boobs... so he's looking at your shoes.
