It was not a joke, he does it every time and keeps telling me how beautiful I am. But he also tells me that I’m not relationship material to him. I find this very contradictory

1. Ask him what he considers relationship material.

2. Don't fall for any friends with benefits sort of thing that he may be thinking about.

3. If you're not relationship material to him then you need to tell him that he can't do that to you in front of people because he's blocking you from possibly connecting with someone who DOES consider you relationship material.

Some guys won’t admit to it because of rejection. Take for instance, if you are friends he probably don’t want to ruin the bond you have together. They may also be afraid of losing you or even getting friend-zoned.
