I’m not. I’m MAGA white but my girlfriend is black. Been together 2.5 years. What I’ve observed since I’ve been in the black community is blacks themselves are the ones concerned about color of skin. I’ve heard blacks call each other by their skin tone. A friend of ours is lighter than average with a yellow tint and I’ve heard many blacks call her yellow girl. Then there’s the “N” word. You call each other that constantly and frankly I’m fed up with it. If it’s no big deal then I’m gonna start using it again

Some Black people use the N-word with each other as a form of in-group slang, but not everyone does, and people have different feelings about it.

A few reasons it developed:

* Reclaiming: The word has a long history as an anti-Black slur. Some Black people use a version of it among themselves to take some of the power away from its historical use as an insult.
* Cultural slang: In some communities, it became a casual term similar to “bro,” “friend,” “dude,” or “person.”
* Different meanings depending on context: Tone, relationship, and the ending matter. “My ___” said affectionately can be very different from using the word during an argument.
* Music and popular culture: Hip-hop and other Black American cultural spaces helped spread its in-group usage more widely.
* Not universally accepted: Some Black people strongly dislike the word—even when another Black person says it—and don’t use it themselves.

Skin color thing isn’t just a black thing. In South Asia it’s people who are considered dark skin, light skin or brown skin. This not just black thing.
