Now, my boyfriend says the doctor told him to take laxatives.
My questions:
1: Will that work?
2: Why is this happening?
3:How can we temporarily lessen the pain while the laxatives do their magic?
Please help, I hate seeing him in pain.

laxatives makes a person poop
he might have something more serious like kidney issues or appendix... he should go see a new doctor for another opinion
I guess the question to ask would be does he feel better after he passes gas? if not then it's not "Air bubbles"
laxatives cause the intestines to contract and relax faster so that whatever is in there, including gas, is pushed out faster :P i agree completely agree with you!! a doctor shouldn't leave a patient unsure.
I went to a doctor for my acne, and he gave me antibiotics even though my acne wasn't the infected type, so of course it didn't work! Now i have an appointment with a dermatologist so if this is something so serious that he has to deal with everyday, then i suggest he go see a specialist!!
and if passing gas really is the issue, then i suggest he pulls his knees into his stomach while on his back to put pressure on his intestines and leave that airway open so gas can escape more easily. You can help him with that by pushing his knees in and rotating them as you do so so that you're putting pressure on every area
oh and he should probably lay off carbonated drinks and not drink from a straw so that he isn't swallowing air.
Well does he eat crap for food like eating mcdonalds everyday, if he ate healthier its possible that would approve that condition, Also massaging his stomach to break up of the gas bubbles may also help, its helpful to keep him comfortable
It may make things worse actually. He needs to see a licensed nutritionist or a gastroenterologist.

Laxatives will change those gas bubbles into noxious discharges.
