Learning self defense is a must for any girl wanting to feel safe. However, it is very important to choose the right course. The class I took was very intense, we learned all sorts of things from awareness/avoidance to basic and last resort techniques. Our female instructor told us we are going to learn some brutal stuff, but we must not be squeamish, self defense is not a pretty thing. She also explained us some very important points: Girls cannot compete guys on strength but can be trained to excel in specific techniques designed to explore male's' natural vulnerabilities. When fighting back in a serious situation you need to inflict an incapacitating injury, fast without warning.

However, the methods must be taught properly but at the same time regularly exercised to become automatic when needed. We learned a variety of serious combat techniques; attacker's eyes, Adam’s apple and balls were the prime targets. She even used some medical diagrams explaining us the anatomy of the target, what the effect and injury would be when executed correctly. For me and the other girls it was not a piece of cake to listen to detailed graphic descriptions of specific techniques how to gouge eyes or how to destroy a rapist's testicle or even to practice them on some anatomically correct props. Unfortunately, this is sugar-coated in many courses making them ineffective. She also stressed that this knowledge should not be misused and only to be applied in self defense situations.

With a right technique even a petite girl can take down a strong guy. For instance, we were instructed that during a sexual assault if we got a good access to his exposed genitals, we should grasp one of his testicles tightly, twist it as much as possible and jerk hard using the whole momentum of the arm, and if possible, also hole weight. This move can easily tear the spermatic cord and/or detach the epididymis from the testis causing immediate debilitating shock and is especially effective if the attacker has a loose scrotum sac. Brutal? yes, effective yes.

Absolutely, it's never a bad idea knowing how to protect yourself or someone else if you ever find yourself in that kind of situation. It's never time lost learning defense. You can ask anyone who's done defence classes they never say it was a waste

But is it bad on my end if my main objective is just to hit a man in the groin as hard as I can in these classes?

I mean self defense is self defense, but I guess a good idea to go is if ! Your attacker isn't Male or two the attacker has you in a position you can't kick them in the groin

From what the self-defense classes are based on, it's a few men who are kind of like crash test intruders/enforcers and the class is just for women.

Your right but lets be honest these classes are meant against attacks against guys, I don't have to worry about a female encountering me for sex and being aggressive or using cheesy pick-up lines.

i mean i went to 1, this guy in the class basically wrapped me with his arms from behind and i just swung low and hit him in the groin and he fell down but im assuming its not that easy to take down men.

If it's not easy then I think the classes would really help. It's better than nothing

No, I don't think so. Men are naturally stronger than women so you have to capitalize on their weaknesses in order to overtake them.

Oh I would definitely capitalize, some guys in the class make fun of me because I'm 5'2 and I can't hurt them and then try to pull cheesy pick up lines... its pretty annoying tbh.

Well.. I wouldn't say you should assault people because they're making fun of you... I think it should only be used when you're in an unsafe predicament and someone attacks you.

I know this may sound odd but what is the best method in your opinion in self-defense to hit a guy down there? Punch, knee, or kick?

Probably the knee, you can do it quicker than the other two
