Would it BOTHER you if your DOCTOR graduated at the BOTTOM OF HIS CLASS?

We've all seen the diplomas on the wall of the examining room when we go to see the doctor. What if you found out that your doctor barely graduated, was at the bottom of his graduating class? Would it bother you? What would you do?

Doesn’t mean anything I’m a medical student and repeating a semester too
It is difficult
Someone passing right away doesn’t mean much really I know students who get high scores but they don’t care about patient they lack empathy and compassion they are cold as ice and there is ME who cries when hears a child crying.
A doctor is not god or discovers diseases and medications a doctor is someone who memorizes drugs at the end of the day once you become a dr all you have to do is memorize a certain routine of drugs

Well if they pass boards they prove to have the required knowledge to practice safely, in addition to passing other tests and classes in school, so it doesn’t worry me.

also, doctors are not your typical students... lol

they never really stop studying, they are constantly getting better and better (they should anyway)

also, grades are not always the best reflection of someone's capabilities

and as a tutor I know that very well... from the 50 students I tutored in the last two years, around 20 of them had very bad and low grades... and all 20 of them, just aced their last exams after months and months of proper work

so it also matters how did this "bottom of the class" actually did, after those grades, not before...

Absolutely NOT! A physician's real education only really starts when they start doing clinical. The real test is how well they handled their residency. While not on topic, one of the engineers that worked for me was way down at the bottom of his class at Virginia Tech. I was the one that hired him. He also was one of my best engineers. Your class rankings are not really all that much of a measure of how well you will do once out of school.

If you do your job well and don’t charge an arm and a leg then it doesn’t matter were you got your degree or what your grades were. Plenty of doctors aren’t all that good, over prescribe, misdiagnose, are arrogant even when wrong, push political narratives that fly in the face of the scientific data, and will still stick you with a several thousand dollar bill for 30 minutes of work. Grades or school prestige (due to to NIH ass kissing and obedience for grant funding) don’t make you a good doctor.

No. The most successful people were almost never the top of their class in every field. I'd want the doctor who is best in the field. I don't care if he was top of his class writing papers in school without any real world experience

There are a lot of good doctors who didn't do great in school. More common in surgeons actually. They take the job way more seriously than they did school because school isn't life and death. Their job is and that changes everything

A lad I worked with was an Avionics engineer he left the Air Force, went to University and did his Doctor thing, he’s now a heart surgeon and he was shit as an Aircraft engineer lol

Another person is a girl I’m friends with, she was a dancer and is now an eye consultant .
being top, middle of bottom does not matter, you qualify and learn as you gain experience.

Becoming a doctor isn't like becoming a lawyer; the training is so expensive that society only lets the best applicants in. If you can get into medical school, you can probably pass the medical Boards. Law school doesn't offer the same odds when it comes to the Bar.

I don't think I'd be reassured, but I wouldn't be worried. There's on old joke: what do you call the doctor who was last in his graduating class? Doctor.

Do you know how hard it is to pass and qualify as a doctor? Like MEGA hard. He may have only just passed but he passed. The pass mark is there for a reason. I would have no issues if that was your only concern.

Passing the final year is exceptionally hard, and people do drop out and fail, if he passed he passed, and that's good enough for me.

No not at all. A doctor that graduated at the bottom of his or her class is still a doctor, meaning they know far more about medicine and have a lot more practice in the field than I do.

Of course not, who really cares. There could be a number of reasons why.

I would be more concerned about how well he's going about his job at present, and how honest he is. Also what his prices are, if they reflect the service.

No it would not because in order to get a medical license you still have to pass medical school which isn't easy. Grades can sometimes be overrated.
